Moonjeong Library has been the main library since the opening of the Sejong Campus in March 1989. The library was relocated, expanded and renamed as Moonjeong Library in a newly constructed building () built in June 1996. It has continued to expand and develop; which currently is 6,365.73㎡(1,926 pyeong) in size with 1,427 reading seats and more than 630,000 books.
The library consists of circulation desk (Moonjeong Library(Building F) 1F 100), reference reading room, dissertation room, Periodicals Room (Moonjeong Library(Building F) 2F 201), Multimedia Information Center (Moonjeong Library(Building F) 3F 302), and General Reading Room (Engineering Hall 1(Building C) 2F 211-1, Moonjeong Library(Building F) 3F 301), The library provides a pleasant learning environment by installing air conditioning/ heating equipment, air purifiers, and rest area. It also has separate group study rooms for group projects and also has facilities for the disabled.
In particular, Multimedia Information Center is equipped with video, microfilm reader, LCD TV and DVD Set, PC etc., and operates 2 co-video learning centers to help individual learning and facilitate information retrieval by students.
Automated book return machines are installed outside of the library for the users’ convenience when returning borrowed books. (Gaon Hall(Building A) 1F ) Also, the library has a fully computerized system and information retrieval system is jointly operated with Seoul Campus by connecting the database between the two Campuses online.
The librarians at the library welcome questions and inquiries from library users, and are always available to help them with reference and information services. They help students save time and resolve difficulties in data browsing
The newly arrived books are temporarily arranged in the ‘newly arrived books’ corner located at the lobby of the circulation desk on the 1st floor of the library. After a certain period of time, the books are then arranged into the regular library bookshelves.
If the library does not have the book the user(s) need, the request form for purchasing book is filled out on-line at Hongik website. Then the book will be purchased and be available to the users as soon as possible unless there is a special reason not to.
Automated card-based photocopying machines are available on the 2nd floor of the reference data center. Photocopying of the materials from the library should be done within the limit of not violating the intellectual property rights.
If requested data does not exist in the library, “a request for browsing through Library at Other Universities (Institutes)” can be issued in the name of the Head of library to allow users to browse through data in all libraries and research institutes nationwide. The periodical publication center on the 2nd floor is in charge of this task.
The library data is openly available to all Hongik graduates to help Hongik members with their life-long education, and to reinforce the bond between the university and alumni. Graduates willing to use library materials should bring a certified copy of their diploma and personal identification card, and go through a simple procedure.
If the books a student wants to check out have already been checked out by another person, this system allows the student to make a loan reservation at the library website. When the reserved book is returned, an automated e-mail notifying the ‘arrival of reserved book’ is sent to the student’s e-mail address. The book will be separately arranged in the reserved book corner for a week. The circulation desk on the 1st floor is in charge of this reservation system.
The library has subscribed to the interlibrary loan system by KERIS and the interlibrary loan service by Korean Association of Private University Libraries. Accordingly, if one wishes, s/he will be provided with all periodicals, theses, and separate volumes produced in Korea, and the users may also be provided with the materials located overseas. Please ask a librarian of the Reference Reading Room (located on 2F main library) for photocopying services.
