The Department of Economics' affiliated Economic Institute of Economic Research is an organization that supports the research enthusiasm of the faculty and students by providing various resources for academic research and data analysis. The Economic Research Institute continually strives to support the research and academic activities of all members.
Research Institute for Science and Technology was established in 1986 by merging existing research institutes to contribute to national society and integrate industry and academia through academic advancement and scientific technology development in the fields of basic and applied science. The research fields within the institute are subdivided into eight and the research of researchers with various majors is organically connected to establish a close cooperation system between research fields.

Established in 1984, Hongik University Ceramic Research Center aims to advance the fields of ceramic art and industry through scholarly research on both Korean traditional and contemporary ceramics. The Center has dedicated itself to fostering international exchange of academic and artistic ideas through exhibitions, programs, and academic publications.
Hongik University's East Asia Institue Management will promote the academic development of in-depth business administration, actively respond to changes in the Northeast Asian business environment, and continue to grow together with Korean companies and academia.
Northeast Asian Law is a law journal edited by faculty members from Hongik University, Suffolk University, and Sichuan University School of Law.
Based on years of preparation, it will provide a forum for scholarly analysis covering all aspects of legal issues in Northeast Asia and globalization.
The Research Center for East Asian Arts and Culture was established to conduct collaborative research on art and culture in Korea, Japan and other Asian regions with Hongik University, Kyoto University of the Arts and Tohoku University of Art & Design in japan. With its academic foundation in art history, the institute tries to explore various research topics, including the history of artistic and cultural exchanges in East Asia, and shares its results by holding academic symposia and research seminars. In doing so, the institute aims to establish a new hub for the study of East Asian art and culture, centered on Hongik University.
The Mechatronics Research Center aims to systematically conduct basic and applied research related to factory automation and systems based on industry-academia collaboration. The center seeks to develop new technologies, transfer production technologies to industries, and provide re-education for industrial personnel. Through these endeavors, the center aims to enhance the international competitiveness of manufacturing companies and achieve industry-academia cooperation.
Established in 2010, Center for Metamaterial Electronic Devices focuses on developing novel RF/photonic devices based on metamaterial technologies. After merging with the Green Technology Research Center in 2015, it became a National Research Foundation-funded key research initiative, solidifying its position as a leading hub for comprehensive metamaterial research.
The Disaster Research Center aims to conduct research and share knowledge and technology for the purpose of creating a sustainable and secure society. The Disaster Research Center has identified "integration," "innovation," "practicality," and "globalization" as our core values and are making efforts to achieve the goals.
The Hongik University Institute of Law was established in 1990 and plays a leading role in legal research in Korea through research, seminars, and journal publications.
Under the umbrella of the Institute, the Center for Creative Writing and Law and the Northeast Asian Law Center are affiliated research institutes.
Hongik University Law Center publishes two academic journals every year: "Hongik Law Review" and "Northeast Asian Law Review" in English. "Hongik Law Review" is published four times a year, and more than 20 excellent articles are published each time. "Northeast Asian Law Review" is a rare English-language journal in the Korean legal community, and it publishes articles by many domestic and foreign researchers.

The Color Design Research Center is actively pursuing various color research activities and support projects aimed at developing industrial-based color content and enhancing corporate image. With the expertise of specialized researchers and the latest equipment, the center is engaged in projects such as establishing color databases in the information industry, color planning for environmental, spatial, media, and product design, as well as trend color planning.
The Smart City Environment Design Research Center, established in 2015, aims to further design research in smart cities and smart environments.
SMRC, Smart Mobility Facility Research Center is established to conduct research in the field of Smart Mobilities and Automomous Mobilities.
The Film and Animation Research Institute aims to contribute to the advancement of the next-generation media and design environments. It researches various fields of film and design culture, investigates general problems, and seeks to provide progressive alternatives to the development of design and visual art culture.
The Humanities Research Institute promotes the development of humanities and liberal arts through fundamental research and comparative studies of East and West cultures. It focuses on excavating and compiling research materials, and fostering a better understanding of history, philosophy, literature, linguistics, and more.

The Small Industry-Academia Cooperation Center (Seoul) utilizes Hongik University's technology development personnel to request technology development jointly with self-technology-based communication through industry-academia cooperation between universities and pharmaceuticals to solve technical difficulties in construction and strengthen technological competitiveness. The purpose is to contribute to revitalizing the economy.
The Small and Medium Enterprise Industry-Academic Cooperation Center (Sejong) aims to enhance the technological competitiveness and future value of small and medium-sized enterprises by utilizing the university's excellent research personnel, research facilities, equipment, and other abundant technological development resources. It seeks to address the technological challenges faced by SMEs, thereby strengthening their technological competitiveness. Additionally, it strives to establish an organic collaboration system among industry, academia, and research institutions to enhance the competitiveness of universities and local industries while promoting regional economic revitalization.
Creation and Law is an academic journal published once a year by the Center for the Study of Creation and Law, and its first issue was published in October 2007. It mainly publishes articles by scholars, professors, and practitioners who are related researchers, and it also publishes excellent articles by graduates of Hongik University's MIP program (Intellectual Property Cooperative Program), which started in 2010.
The Research Center of Marine System was established to carry out basic and applied research related to the marine system technology field and cultivate research personnel to advance Korea's marine technology, enhance international competitiveness and practical industry-university cooperation.
Environmental Development Institute is a research institute affiliated with Hongik University. It is a non-profit academic research institute established in March 1967 by its first director, professor Kim Chung-up. This research institute aims to integrate industry-academia as a research system that promotes, experiments, and creates improvements to the human living environment. The main academic fields are architectural design, interior design, urban design, and engineering.
